Woodstock Police Respond to Surge in Counterfeit Currency Incidents

In response to a significant rise in reports from local businesses concerning the receipt of counterfeit Canadian currency, the Woodstock Police Street Crime Unit launched an investigation into these incidents.

One occurrence occurred on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, when an unidentified male entered a Woodstock-based business. The individual presented the cashier with counterfeit currency, including two counterfeit Canadian $100.00 bills and one counterfeit Canadian twenty-dollar bill.

Investigators were able to identify a 25-year-old male who was arrested on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024, in connection with the circulation of these counterfeit bills. The suspect was subsequently released with an upcoming court date.
